Kieran Trippier gives honest verdict on his role in 'sloppy' Newcastle United moment

Newcastle United captain Kieran Trippier admits were 'sloppy' while defending the corner that led to Bournemouth's opener on Saturday. The Magpies were held to their fifth draw in six Premier League games after a frustrating night on the south coast.

Marcos Senesi was left unmarked at the back post to give Bournemouth the lead in the first-half and Trippier was brutally honest about his own responsibility in the Cherries' opener. Speaking to Sky Sports at full-time, Trippier said: "I lost my man. It is not like us but it is sloppy, myself included. We have to go again. We get ready for another game next week.

Newcastle weren't at the races in the first-half but found an equaliser on the stroke of half-time through Miguel Almiron. Now, attention turns to Liverpool and the Carabao Cup final, with Trippier saying his side have 'a lot to work on'

"I think we did well. In certain moments, Bournemouth are good on the transition. They defend well and break forward and we have to be aware of that. This is a tough place to come and the most important thing is that we don't get beat and it is another point that could be massive come the end.

"We didn't start strong. We knew Bournemouth would come out of the traps quick. They are at home. Overall we are happy but we have so much to work on."
