Kieran Trippier has insisted Newcastle United are not getting ahead of themselves as they close in on the Champions League places.
The England full-back has been part of a United side that have won 5-1 and 4-1 at West Ham and Everton, as well as battering Tottenham Hotspur. The truth is, Newcastle have played two matches in a row with contrasting halves in the last two games but it feels like they are due to pull off an even bigger hammering given the confidence levels and amount of chances they are creating.
Newcastle now face a Southampton team that have conceded 57 goals and have a goal difference of minus 30. But Trippier is not eyeing any type of record scoreline, he just wants a thorough job from his troops.

Trippier told Chronicle Live: "We don't look at it like that really. I think you look at the Spurs game, every game we try to start it fast.
"Some matches we haven't, but that's football. The good thing about this team is we have a never-say-die attitude and we always keep going. We stick together which is the most important thing.
"It's about trying to get the results we need. It doesn't matter how you win them, it is about getting the points you need until the end of the season."
Trippier admits that Newcastle were below par at Goodison Park in the first half. But says half-time was about finding solutions rather than getting hot under the collar.
Trippier added: "You expect that away to Everton. It's a tough ground to go to. It's one of the hardest in the league to be honest with you. We didn't play well.
"We managed to hang in there and limited them with chances. We showed that great resilience, the second half we were brilliant and clinical, we have players scoring all around the pitch, we are not just relying on Alex (Isak) or Wils (Callum Wilson) or whoever.
"The midfielders are scoring and it's good. We are showing signs of a good team."
Now Trippier, who picked up a knock at Everton but should be fine for the meeting with the Saints, feels Sunday is a chance to take another step in the right direction.
When asked if Newcastle have a chance to move closer, Trippier said: "It is, but we can't get complacent we can't just turn up and think we are going to get three points. We're all fighting for different reasons. Of course, they are going to be up for it.
"They are fighting for survival, fighting for top four. The main focus is on recovery, the game is in three days, we need to recover and get back to training. I am all right it was just a clash of knees."
