Kieran Tierney 'tracked' by Newcastle United as Celtic hero offered Arsenal exit pathway

Kieran Tierney is being 'closely monitored' by Newcastle United, according to a report, potentially handing the Celtic hero a pathway out of Arsenal.

The 25-year-old has found himself on the periphery of the Arsenal team this season after a bright start to life in North London. Tierney joined the English Premier League giants from Celtic in August 2019 and immediately became a fan favourite before his 2021-22 campaign was also cut short after undergoing knee surgery, an injury which played a part in his side missing out on the top four.

That resulted in Mikel Arteta signing Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City last summer, and Tierney has also found Takehiro Tomiyasu used at left-back ahead of him in recent months.

Now Football Insider claim the Scotland star has interest from Newcastle as well as clubs in Italy. The latter is unlikely, though, as Tierney openly admitted in the Amazon: All or Nothing documentary that he was very homesick after swapping Glasgow for London.

The North east-giants are looking for a first choice left-back to compete with Dan Burn and Matty Targett, with Tierney appearing to be a viable option. It is believed he could be prized away from the Emirates Stadium for around £30million.

Tierney recently discussed life away from home in an interview with Arsenal TV. He said: “It’s not been difficult to stay in touch, but the hardest part is you don’t see each other every day. But there will be a phone call every single day, without question.

"Whether it’s five minutes driving to and from training, whether it’s Facetime when I’m just chilling in the house or I usually phone my mum when I’m taking the dog out for a walk. So it’s every day, religiously.

“We very rarely talk about football. She might ask how training was today but nothing much more than that. Unless I want to talk about something specific then we do, but it’s more just day-to-day stuff, what I’m up to, what I’m having for dinner that night, things like that.”
