Kieran Tierney to Manchester City update as Celtic favourite sees big bucks transfer deemed 'over'

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola appears to have ended any speculation surrounding a move for Celtic academy product Kieran Tierney with the Spaniard confirming their summer shopping is done.

The Premier League champions sold City sold Oleksandr Zinchenko to Tierney's current club Arsenal on the condition that they could fine a sufficient replacement. A move for Marc Cucurella fell flat and he went to Chelsea, which has led to Scotland's versatile defender being linked with a transfer in excess of £50 million. Celtic have a 15% sell-on clause as part of the deal which took him south in 2019 and stand to profit from any future move.

That won't be this summer though after Guardiola moved for Anderlecht's Sergio Gomez, partly on the advice of Man City legend Vincent Kompany, who managed the Belgian side last season. In a blow to any seven-figure Parkhead cash hopes, the former Barcelona manager says summer shopping in the left-back area is done.

He said: "The moment we couldn't go through with Cucurella because the club decide we wouldn't pay this amount of money for this player, I said 'okay', think about the idea we had before to loan Sergio.

"We spent time to watch him more. I said 'okay, it is perfect for everything - the price, young player, desire - okay, go for it'.

"The moment we decide for Sergio, the debate for another left-back was over. If nobody moves, I think nobody's coming in."
