Celtic’s attempt to sign Kieran Tierney during the winter transfer window was “not close”, according to manager Brendan Rodgers.
The Scottish Premiership leaders know that Tierney will return to the club in the summer, but they were desperate to see the Arsenal defender join early ahead of the season run-in.
Tierney has found himself out of favour at the Emirates Stadium, with boss Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal hierarchy opting against giving the Scotland star a contract extension.
He’s now free to join Celtic for nothing in June, ending a six year association with the English Premier League giants.

"No, it wasn't close," Rodgers revealed. "I think it was clear, obviously, Kieran is for the summer.
"If that was the possibility, then that was on Arsenal's terms. If it was to happen, then great. But clearly, he was a part of their squad.
"He will be here in the summer."
