Kieran Tierney 'open' to Newcastle transfer and Arsenal's stance could leave Celtic quids in

Kieran Tierney is “open” to joining Newcastle if his Arsenal exile continues for the rest of the season.

The Scotland star finds himself stuck behind Oleksandr Zinchenko in the Emirates pecking order, and Mikel Arteta shows no sign of losing faith in the Ukrainian as the Gunners try and hold off the threat from Manchester City and claim a first English Premier Division title in more than two decades.

Tierney now finds his career at a crossroads, almost four years on from making the £25million switch from Celtic to North London in what was a record breaking deal for the Hoops. Tierney had been expected to occupy the left back spot at Arsenal for years to come. But Zinchenko’s arrival from City has seen him thrust into the role of backup and he's mostly had to watch on as his team lead the way at the top of the table.

Newcastle have big future plans after being taken over by the mega-rich Saudi PIF last season. They reached the Carabao Cup final and have designs on a Champions League spot for next season. Local lad Dan Burn has been turned into a left back by Eddie Howe, but he’s seeking specialist for the position as the Toon look to move up the levels.

Tierney has been identified as an ideal target for the left hand side of the Magpies defence. And now the London Standard claim he would been “open” to a move to Tyneside should his situation not improve.

And Celtic would be in line to benefit financially. The Premiership champions are due a percentage of any profit Arsenal make on a potential deal and plan on at least recouping the £25million they paid for Tierney.
