Nicky Law was able to count his lucky stars that a Kieran Tierney masterclass didn't ruin his big day out when Rangers beat Celtic in the Old Firm derby back in 2016 at Hampden Park.
With the Ibrox side in the Championship at the time, it was expected that Celtic would beat their bitter rivals having achieved a degree of success under Ronny Deila's management - though the script was upheaved when Rangers took the lead twice throughout the game. Despite the Hoops pulling it back to 2-2, penalties ensued - where the Light Blues won against the odds to set up a Scottish Cup final date against fellow second-tier side Hibs.
However, it wasn't all plain sailing for Rangers star Law on the day. Having come on as a substitute, he was given the task of having to battle with Kieran Tierney; who despite being just 18 years of age at the time, gave the Englishman a torrid time at the national ground - with Law admitting he thought that his mistake in allowing Tierney to set up the equaliser would mean Rangers fans 'would never forgive him'.
He told the Scottish Sun: "When I came on just after an hour it was 1-1 and it was already frantic and it was difficult to get into the speed of an Old Firm game. Nothing prepares you for it. Barrie McKay produced an absolutely stunning strike to put us back in front before Tom Rogic made it 2-2. Kieran Tierney was flying at that point and I knew he was going to the very top. We knew we had to stop him, but he was relentless getting up and down.
"I remember Tierney skipped past me for the equaliser and I just wanted the ground to open up and swallow me. I thought the Rangers fans would never forgive me. I feared I wouldn't be able to set foot in Glasgow again as the game is so important.
"I wasn't meant to be taking the seventh penalty which ended up winning it for us. It was meant to be Danny Wilson and when it came to him he told me it was my turn and I was before him. I said it was the other way around, but he wasn't having it and I had to step forward. It was so nerve wracking for me, after giving a goal away, I thought, 'Don't miss' and thankfully I put it away. Then Rogic missed his and that was it."
