Kieran Tierney given 'patient' Arsenal advice as former Celtic hero's attitude praised by Mikael Silvestre

Former Arsenal and Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre believes Kieran Tierney needs to be "patient" after the Scotland star has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

Tierney made the £25million move from Celtic to the English Premier League giants in summer 2019 and immediately became a fans favourite after a number of impressive performances at left-back, which even lead to him being tipped as "captain material." However after a series of injuries coupled with the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko and the versatility of Takehiro Tomiyasu, Tierney has played just 82 league minutes throughout October having mostly been used in the Europa League.

And speaking to bettingexpert, Silvestre reckons the 25-year-old will just have to use his positive mentality and attitude to carve out the opportunity to force his way back into boss Mikel Arteta's thinking. He said: "It’s true that the manager is using options that we wouldn’t guess at the beginning of the season.

"You know, Ben White at right-back and Tomiyasu at left-back against Salah, for instance. There’s a lot of competition.

"Tierney is a good player so again, it’s not easy to deal with these situations. But he also has a very good mentality, he just needs to keep patient and wait for opportunities. There will be a lot of games to play."

Arsenal host FC Zurich on Thursday night knowing that a win will secure top stop in Europa League Group A having already secured qualification to the knockout stage. And it's likely going to give Tierney another chance to impress with the Swiss outfit rooted to the bottom of the section.
