Kieran Tierney drops Arsenal transfer exit hint as Newcastle eye £30m summer deal

Arsenal star Kieran Tierney may have hinted at a potential exit from the club this summer amid links over a switch in the coming months. The Scotland international has previously been a key player for the Gunners, but this season has found game time hard to come by.

The signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer has seen the left-back role change to a more inverted position in build-up, where Tierney's strengths come from width. Mikel Arteta has chopped and changed his full-back selection in recent weeks though, handing an opportunity to impress.

"We had to adapt. We had some important injuries in our backline," the Spaniard said when asked about switching his defenders. "We had three players out and we had seven players in the backline this season. That was a concern. There were certain things that I wanted to had adapt because I have been thinking a long time about those options. If not we are very exposed. I’m so happy with what they’ve done."

However, with the summer transfer window now on the horizon, there are some difficult decisions to be made by both the club and players to get the balance of the squad right. For Tierney, the pursuit of more regular game time could be key and may be something that is a sticking point at a crossroads in his Arsenal career.

He may have hinted at a potential exit too, having stayed back at the end of the clash with Wolves to stand in front of the fans and applaud on his own. For many it was a sign of a farewell from the defender, though there is still uncertainty over where his future may lie.

One of the prominent links has been with Newcastle as the Daily Mail reported that the Magpies are circling a deal and are eyeing a £30million bid. Given their recent rise to the top four, it remains to be seen whether the Gunners would offer the chance for rivals to strengthen, but a suitable offer may change things as the focus of Arteta is to change the squad around this summer.
