Kieran Dowell to Birmingham transfer urged as Rangers loanee shines

Birmingham City fans have called on their club to sign Rangers midfielder Kieran Dowell on a permanent basis.

The 27-year-old joined the League One club on loan from the Scottish Premiership giants last month.

The former Norwich City man was allowed to leave Ibrox by Philippe Clement. He is contracted to the club until the summer of 2026.

Dowell has played in Birmingham's last three games - all of which yielded victories - with two starts against Rotherham and Stevenage, and a substitute appearance against Huddersfield.

And it seems he has made a positive impact on his new club, with supporters taking to social media to praise him for his efforts, insisting they want to see his temporary move turned into a full transfer should he continue his fine form.

@1875Jake wrote on X: "Dowell has been brilliant in the 2 games. Feel we will be begging to sign him permanently in the summer if he keeps it up."

Another City fan commented: "He’s class man what a signing so tekky on the ball that left foot."

Another added: "Reminds me a bit of a tall Bryan Hughes, similar silky style about him. Doesn't get ruffled and I think he'll pop up with a few goals too."

Dowell joins former Gers teammates Ben Davies, who is also on loan, and Scott Wright at St Andrew's.

The club, managed by former Celtic, Leciester and Tottenham assistant Chris Davies, have a strong Scottish-based identity as they aim to bounce back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

The likes of Alex Cochrane, Grant Hanley, Marc Leonard, Lyndon Dykes, Tomoki Iwata and Lukas Jutkiewicz can all be found in their ranks.

Some Rangers fans made their feelings known in the replies to the Birmingham supporters.

One said: "I cannot stress this enough - you will NOT need to beg. You will find us very accommodating.

"I doubt we’ll even demand a fee. In fact if you just don’t return him in July I honestly don’t think anyone from Rangers will even get in touch with you to find out where he is."

Another commented: "Lads, you can have him and Davies on us. No catch. All yours."

While a third joked: "He'll be a big miss for us, £25m and we could reluctantly let him go permanently."
