Norwich City boss David Wagner admits outgoing stars from Carrow Road may not have the right blend of "potential and quality" as Kieran Dowell nears a move to Rangers.
Record Sport revealed the 25-year-old is set to kick-start a pre-season revamp of Michael Beale's squad with the midfielder poised to pen a three-year deal at at the Light Blues when his Carrow Road contract expires this summer. It's a blow for Wagner, who brought Dowell back into his first-team plans when he arrived at the club earlier this season. But Dowell's second chance at the Canaries was cut-short after picking up a knee injury in February.
Before his spell on the sidelines, Dowell has scored five goals in 26 appearances for the Championship side and Wagner had admitted the club were keen to extend his deal beyond the summer. However, he appears to have changed his tune when speaking ahead of the final game of the season against Blackpool with a veiled swipe ahead his Scottish Premiership switch.
Asked about the potential outgoings this summer - including Dowell - the Norwich boss said: “There is potential in this group. I think everybody can see the individual potential as well.
"But it's a big, big difference between potential and quality. You can have potential but if you don't show it consistently this means we miss the quality. And this is exactly what we have to make sure doesn’t happen.
"We either get that consistency from these players, or else add the guys who are able to consistently show their potential and quality. This is what we are working on. To have both."
