Kieran Dowell has kicked off Michael Beale's big summer Rangers rebuild after agreeing a three-year contract to move to Ibrox.
Our sister title the Sunday Mail exclusively revealed last month that the former Norwich City playmaker had struck a deal to join the Light Blues and now it has been confirmed. Beale promised supporters there would be signing news ahead of the penultimate Scottish Premiership fixture against Hearts at Ibrox and it's been announced the 25-year-old is that man.
Dowell came through the youth ranks at Everton as a kid and during his time at Goodison Park had loan spells at Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Derby and Wigan - before signing for Norwich in 2020. He left Carrow Road following the expiration of contract and Beale has wasted no time in snapping him up.
The player told the Rangers website: "I’m buzzing and really glad to get it done early towards the end of the season. I know a lot of Rangers fans and Scottish lads from my previous clubs, and they just speak so highly of Rangers - the intensity of it, the pressure of it - and that is a really good pressure as you are expected to win every game. There were so many positives for me to come here.”
And Beale said: "“I’m delighted to get Kieran and he is a boy I have known for quite a while as when I was at Liverpool he was at Everton. He played for England Under-21 and then got a move to Norwich and played in the Premier League. He is a left footer who can play in midfield or in the attacking line, similar to Todd.”
