Kier Group has won the contract to build the next stage of a 70 acre brewery development on the outskirts of Leicester.
The UK construction specialist has been appointed to deliver the second phase of the £26.6 million Everards Meadows scheme, south of the city, close to Junction 21 of the M1.
Everards is building its new brewery, beer hall and offices on the land, having sold its original brewery site next door to the Fosse Park shopping centre which is building a £155 million extension.
Kier worked on the first stage of the Everards Meadows plans, installing a cycle centre, café, a new pedestrian and cycle bridge across the River Soar as well as 2 miles of cycle ways. That stage will open to the public next month.
Kier’s work on the £13.2 million second phase will include 9,000 sq ft of office space, almost 16,000 sq ft of brewery space and more than 11,000 sq ft of shops, food and drink space.
The work should be completed in the late summer of 2020.
Mark Pausey, managing director of Kier Regional Building Central, said: “We’re thrilled to have been awarded the next phase of this exciting project which will continue to develop our strong relationship with Everards.
“Everards has a deep-rooted heritage in Leicestershire and it is a privilege to construct its new home where it will continue brewing great quality beer as well as bringing a unique experience to its visitors.”
The brewery is currently working out of a new £4.7 million distribution centre in nearby Glenfield, temporarily outsourcing production of its beers such as Tiger, Old Original and Beacon Hill outside the county.
Managing director Stephen Gould said: “We’ve been working with Kier on this development since 2017 and have been really impressed with not only its work but also its approach and connection to our local community.
“There is strong trust and confidence which has been built up between the Everards and Kier teams and we certainly look forward to continuing this beneficial and collaborative approach throughout the build of our new home for the next generation of our family business.”
Around £5.4 million will be invested in new brewing and distillation equipment as part of the plans.
