Kieffer Moore ready to start Wales' second World Cup game and 'impose' himself on Iran

Kieffer Moore is banking on his second-half performance against the USA earning him a spot in Wales' starting line-up against Iran on Friday.

The striker started on the bench against the Americans but made a telling impact after replacing Daniel James at half-time as he helped tilt the World Cup opener back Wales' way.

Moore's hold-up play and willingness to run the channels played a significant role in giving Wales a foothold in the contest, with Rpb Page's side coming from behind to clinch a point courtesy of Gareth Bale's penalty.

Moore admits he was disappointed not to get the chance to play from the outset but is hoping for the call from the off in the second game.

“I guess that’s the manager’s decision to make," he said on the team selection for the Iran showdown. "I wanted to impose myself on the game (against the USA) and do what I could, so hopefully I am in a position to start on Friday.

“I knew what I had to do at half-time – just play my game really. To come away with a point from that game is a fair reflection.

"Every player wants to play every single game at a World Cup. Who doesn’t want to play? But ultimately it was the manager’s decision. On another day it could easily have turned the other way and we could have been 2-0 up at half-time.”

Following the clash with the USA, Moore's Bournemouth and Wales team-mate Chris Mepham stated that World Cup sides would struggle to contain the towering frontman. And Moore admits his all-round qualities make him a tricky customer.

“I think it’s everything really – my willingness to run and work for the team, I have that physical and height advantage so I like to play to my strengths," he said on his attributes. "I like to bring other people into play. I felt like that was a great opportunity to do that and, the way the game panned out, it played perfectly into it.”
