Kids convinced 'Father Christmas has arrived' as sky turns incredible red colour

Mum Kate Edwards, who lives in Banks, slightly north of Southport, was shocked to see the sky above her house lit up in red on Sunday night.

The 33-year-old ventured outside, alongside her brother and partner, after the World Cup final to look at the "ominous" looking sky.

Confused by the "flickering" red sky, she took to a local Facebook page to ask people what it was, the Liverpool Echo reports.

She wrote: "Does anyone know what the red glow in the sky is? Pretty sure it’s not greenhouses this time of year. Is it [Father Christmas]?"

Kate, who runs a local children's nursery told the Liverpool Echo : "My mum, who lives across the road from me, rang me to say the sky was red and it was flickering.

"I just said to her that it was probably the greenhouses nearby but she was adamant it wasn't. So me, my partner and my brother all went outside to have a look after watching the football. It was really ominous."

People quickly commented on the post claiming it was just the greenhouses nearby, which regularly light up the sky. But one person had a bit of fun with it.

They wrote: "It's Father Christmas's coat glowing in the dark."

Kate added: "It was quite funny because one person said they told their children it was Father Christmas to get them to behave."

Meanwhile, a mum-of-six admitted she doesn't let Father Christmas take credit for the presents she buys her children every year, and she puts them under the tree weeks before the big day.

Cheryl Cooper, 40, from Colchester, Essex, has spent £3,000 on gifts for her brood as well as family and friends but she hasn't finished shopping yet, and she doesn't hide them away until the night before Christmas.

Instead, Cheryl wraps her presents, then places them under the tree for weeks before December 25 - to avoid the little ones trying to find them.

The mum-of-six, wants Lewis, 23, Mason, 21, Millie-Leigh, 17, Lacie-Mae, 14, Cassius, six, and Lennox-Bear, three, to know that both 'mum and dad' have worked hard to provide their gifts.

Cheryl told the Mirror: "I purely put presents under the tree as I have no space to store them and I have nosey little ones who would try to take a peek if not!

"If presents are wrapped and under the tree, they can't get to them.

"It works for me and also teaches my children that just because there are presents under there, it doesn't mean they're to be opened.

"They still need to be patient and wait for Christmas Day."
