Kidnap arrest after toddler, 2, 'snatched from pram' in front of mother at London TK Maxx store

A man has been arrested for kidnapping after a two-year-old child was allegedly pulled from their pram at a TK Maxx store on Bromley High Street.

The horror unfolded in front of the child’s mother at the large department store on Wednesday, Metropolitan Police said, adding that an investigation is still ongoing.

The suspect told the toddler’s mother that “he will take the child”, the force said on Thursday. The toddler has since been found.

The man was arrested for kidnapping and taken into custody.

Police said: “On 28th August 2024, police were called to TK Maxx, Bromley where a suspect had picked up a 2 year old child out of a pram stating to the child's mother that he will take the child. The child was recovered.

“The suspect was arrested for kidnapping and taken to custody. The investigation is still ongoing.”

It comes after a girl, 9, was allegedly snatched from outside Harrods in April. A 56-year-old man was charged with a number of sexual assault offences after the incident at the department store in west London.

In the same month, five teenagers were arrested over the alleged kidnap of a Jewish man in Stamford Hill, north London.
