A child reportedly nailed a Utah man in the face with a rock after the "depraved" man tried to run him and other kids over with a truck, according to police.

Police received a call Thursday afternoon after a man was reportedly seen trying to run over several children at a park, and even allegedly threatened them with a knife, as reported by KSL.com.

The man, later identified as 57-year-old David Earl Holden, allegedly "drove over curbs and onto the grass in his attempts to run children over. (A witness) explained that the children had to flee and jump out of the way of David's truck so they would not be run over," according to an affidavit obtained by KSL.com.

After he failed to hit the children, Holden allegedly parked the truck and began throwing rocks at the children. In return, one of the children reportedly struck Holden in the face after they threw a rock back at him, according to the affidavit obtained by KUTV.

Video footage of the incident was able to be obtained by police, which reportedly showed children running out of the way of the truck, with one child "very nearly run over," the affidavit stated as reported by ABC4.

Police said the man's alleged driving patterns "appeared to demonstrate a depraved indifference to human life," according to the affidavit obtained by ABC4.

Holden was arrested after he was located in a McDonald's parking lot. As he was taken into custody, he reportedly told police that he would try to find a gun if he was released and "become the next mass shooter," the affidavit stated as reported by KUTV.

Holden was booked into Carbon County Jail and is facing three counts of attempted murder, use of dangerous weapon in fight, reckless driving and threat of violence.
