Khloe Kardashian's surrogacy birth made her feel 'less connected' to her newborn son

Khloe Kardashian has opened up on feelings of "guilt" and candidly spoke of being in a "state of shock" following the birth of her second child Tatum after welcoming the newborn into the world via surrogacy last year.

The 38-year-old reality star returned to our screens with the season three premiere of Hulu's hit series, The Kardashians, on Thursday when she opened up on the traumas she faced in expanding her family whilst chatting with sister Kim Kardashian and Scott Disick.

Khloe welcomed Tatum back in July last year with her ex-partner Tristan Thompson. The former star-studded couple also share five-year-old daughter True together.

Speaking to the camera producers to offer a better insight into how things were for her, Khloe explained according to reports in OK! magazine that she was in a "state of shock" surrounding her baby boy's birth.

"I definitely buried my head in the sand during that pregnancy, that I didn't digest what was happening," she said.

"So I think when I went to the hospital, I really think that was the first time that it really registered - and it had nothing to do with the baby.

"It's just, you're just like, 'Ok, we're having a baby and this is my son and I'm taking him home with me'.

"I definitely was in a state of shock, I think, from my entire experience in general."

Footage in the programme showed Khloe in the room during the labour but the surrogate has remained private. The mum-of-two was seen in the clip pulling her face mask down and putting her head in her hands.

She added: "I felt really guilty that this woman just had my baby and I take the baby and I go to another room and you're sort of separated.

"I felt it's such a transactional experience because it's not about him."

Khloe continued: "I wish someone was honest about surrogacy and the difference of it. It doesn't mean it's bad or good. It's still great. It's just very different."

It wouldn't be the first time one of the Kardashian sisters has had children via surrogacy. Khloe's older sister Kim opted for the birth plan for two of her four children.

Kim said: "I do think there is a difference when the baby is in your belly, the baby actually feels your real heart. There is no one else on this planet who will feel you from the inside like that."

It comes as Khloe's pregnancy was also thrown into turmoil with her relationship troubles with her ex-boyfriend Tristan after his secret came out that he had fathered another child with fitness model Maralee Nichols.

The reality star had to rally support from friends and family after the news broke just a few weeks after she had undergone an embryo transfer in November 2021.
