Khloe Kardashian reportedly opted to use a surrogate for her second child as she didn't want to put her body under more strain.
The reality star, 38, made the surprise announcement last week she is imminently expecting a baby with her ex-boyfriend Tristan Thompson via a surrogate.
A statement issued by the couple read: "We can confirm True will have a sibling who was conceived in November.
"Khloe is incredibly grateful to the extraordinary surrogate for such a beautiful blessing. We’d like to ask for kindness and privacy so that Khloe can focus on her family."
Now sources claim while medical reasons played a part in Khloe's decision to go down the route of surrogacy, a "huge motivation" was not to deal with the physical challenges pregnancy brings.
"There were medical reasons that factored into her decision to use a surrogate, but not putting such a strain on her body was a huge motivation", a source told Heat Magazine.
"Kim and Khloe know their bodies are their meal ticket, they made a pact at the start of the year that they'd go all out to get into the best possible shape and they've thrown themselves into the project.
"It's getting quite competitive between them - they're both in the gym constantly and are spending thousands every months on their looks. They live to see jaws dropping with envy, admiration and confusion everywhere they go."
Mirror Online has contacted Khloe's representatives for comment.
Khloe gave birth to daughter True on April 12, 2018, and it marked the end of a long and painful road to motherhood.
Worried that something would go wrong, she waited until she was six months gone before she and partner Tristan even announced the news, which Khloe hailed her 'greatest dream realised'.
Hinting at her struggles to conceive, she said: "I had been waiting and wondering but God had a plan all along. He knew what He was doing. I simply had to trust in Him and be patient."
Khloe underwent three failed cycles of IVF and been forced to abandon the eggs she once froze because they weren't strong enough to survive the defrosting process.
“We realised that my eggs aren’t strong enough to be frozen. They should be mixed immediately with sperm to make embryos,” she previously told the Lady Parts podcast, explaining that instead she and Tristan have skipped straight to the embryo stage.
However, Covid didn't make their quest any easier. "If you do need assistance in fertility, it’s much more challenging during Covid," she continued.
“They say, ‘If you wanna make God laugh, tell him your plans.’ So the one time I’m actually really trying to plan, God is saying, ‘Uh uh, you can’t make your plans like this!'"
