One of British boxing’s most bitter and long-running modern rivalries was finally settled tonight as dominant Kell Brook claimed bragging rights over fierce foe Amir Khan in Manchester.
The former IBF welterweight champion - who was forced to change his gloves in the ring after a pre-fight dispute - produced a superb performance in a long-awaited grudge match nearly 20 years in the making, hurting the spirited Khan on several occasions before referee Victor Loughlin stepped in to stop the contest 51 seconds into round number six.
Brook is now looking towards another potential bad-blooded all-British showdown with Chris Eubank Jr, while Khan has hinted at bringing his illustrious 40-fight professional career to a close.
Tonight’s event at Manchester Arena sold out in just six minutes, with plenty of great action also on the undercard including Natasha Jonas finally becoming a world champion at the third time of asking as she blitzed Chris Namus inside two rounds to pick up the vacant women’s WBO super-welterweight title.
Former Team GB Olympic captain and Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Frazer Clarke won easily with a first-round stoppage on his professional heavyweight debut and the highly-rated Azim brothers also impressed, with the younger Adam producing a highlight-reel knockout along with Bradley Rea.
