Khaldoon Al Mubarak hails ‘phenomenal’ Erling Haaland as Manchester City chairman promises more signings

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak believes that in Erling Haaland the Premier League champions have signed the best striker in the world.

Haaland will officially become a City player on July 1 after it was announced earlier this month that the club had signed the striker from Borussia Dortmund for £51m.

The 21-year-old has a remarkable goalscoring record, currently possessing the best minutes per goal ratio in Champions League history of those who have scored at least 15 times in the competition.

Haaland’s father Alf-Inge spent three seasons at City before leaving in 2003 and Al Mubarak is delighted that his son has followed in his footsteps.

“We have arguably the best No 9 in the world, at the right age,” Al Mubarak told City’s website.

“When you look at the next 10-15 years with Haaland, we’ve invested in a striker for the future.

“He is a very unique, incredibly talented striker that the whole world has been looking at. Every big team in the world wanted Haaland to join and we are absolutely delighted that he chose to join Manchester City.

“I think he has a connection with the fans. Haaland made what I think is a very wise decision and I think for us, what is a super decision. We are getting what is truly a phenomenal player who can give us great memories moving forward. He will fit very nicely with this group.”

City have worked impressively to bolster their attacking options, with Haaland not the only forward set to arrive in Manchester this summer. Julian Alvarez was signed from River Plate in January before being loaned back and he will join up with his new club for pre-season.

Despite that early business, Al Mubarak is confident there is more to come from City this summer as they look to bring in further additions that will help the team in their Premier League title defence and in their bid to finally secure Champions League glory.

“I can confirm that there will be more players coming in,” Al Mubarak said.

“We’ve made two very important additions already but I anticipate we will be doing a couple more. We are looking to strengthen the team in the areas we need strengthening. Every season some players leave and we have to refresh the team. We always look at improving and strengthening.

“We will try to go as fast as we can but it depends on the market. If it was up to me, they would all be done on July.”
