Khabib Nurmagomedov "didn't know" who rapper Drake was at Conor McGregor fight

Khabib Nurmagomedov has admitted he didn't know who rapper Drake was when he appeared on stage before the Russian's grudge match with Conor McGregor.

McGregor brought on four-time Grammy award winner Drake for the weigh-ins at UFC 229 before his lightweight title fight with Nurmagomedov.

Nurmagomedov would go on to defend his title by submitting McGregor in the fight with a mass brawl unfolding after the bout.

Several sports athletes who have posed with Drake have gone to lose their respective events, including the likes of McGregor, Anthony Joshua and tennis star Serena Williams.

And Nurmagomedov admitted he didn't know who Drake was when he appeared at the UFC 229 weigh-ins.

“Honestly, I swear I don’t even [know who Drake was]… before when he was on the corner of Conor [McGregor], people said this guy is very famous. I swear I didn’t know this guy,” he told the Full Send podcast.

“I don’t know this guy like they say. Maybe I hear his music somewhere in street or something but I didn’t know this guy.”

Nurmagomedov later revealed in the podcast he is a fan of American rappers such as Eminem, 50 Cent and 2Pac.

McGregor's friendship with Drake dates back to 2016, revealing the rapper messaged him before his first fight with Nate Diaz.

Former two-weight UFC champion McGregor pressed hard for a rematch with Nurmagomedov after his loss, but the promotion never booked the fight.

UFC boss Dana White tried to convince Nurmagomedov after his retirement to fight McGregor again, but the Russian was having none of it.

And Nurmagomedov blamed the post-fight brawl at UFC 229 on McGregor's poor performance in their fight.

He continued: "First of all, I was preparing for war. I come inside the cage, I fight with this guy, and he tapped. I'm like, 'Why I come here? Why I train so hard for this?

"You're going to tap easily like this?' I just take his chin, you know, and he tapped. This one make me upset too, you know, because I accept more than what I find inside the cage... I remember someone from his corner said something and it was crazy emotional.

"I'm not going to say I am proud of something like this, at the age of 33-years-old I can say I wouldn't have jumped into the crowd now. I am like 'okay this party is not finished'.

"I don't really remember but who cares, I think he was happy because what would have happened if the referee wasn't there?"
