- KFC is debuting a sauce-based restaurant called Saucy. The first location will open in Orlando on Dec. 23.
KFC likes to tell anyone who will listen that its chicken is “finger lickin’ good,” but now it’s suggesting that you dunk that chicken in a variety of sauces.
The fast-food chain will launch a new restaurant concept called Saucy on December 23, with the first location opening in Orlando, Fla. And Saucy, as you might have gathered from the name, is all about the dips.
There are 11 new dips to choose from at this diner, which will serve chicken tenders, rather than the bucket of wings, drumsticks and chicken breasts found at traditional KFCs. (And yes, the number of dips is indeed a nod to the company’s “11 herbs and spices” used in its Original Recipe.)
“Everyone is obsessed with sauce – more is more,” KFC's chief new concept officer, Christophe Poirier, said in a statement. “With Saucy, we’ve taken KFC’s famous Original Recipe and amplified it with a brand-new concept that lets consumers play with flavor.”
While the base options might be limited to 11 dips, Saucy encourages patrons to mix those sauces together to form new flavor combinations, which expands the possibility to the thousands.
Here’s what you’ll have to work with:
- Chimichurri Ranch
- Peri Peri Ranch
- Jalapeno Pesto Ranch
- Smokey Bacon Ranch
- Thai Sweet 'N Spicy
- Sweet 'N Saucy BBQ
- Saucy's Sauce
- Spicy Mango Chutney
- Saucy Ranch
- Creole Honey Mustard
- Sweet Teriyaki
Orlando will get the first Saucy, but KFC says it plans to expand the brand soon to other locations.
KFC is just the latest fast-food chain to open a new restaurant concept. Taco Bell, earlier this month, unveiled a specialty drinks pilot restaurant called Live Mas Café in San Diego. One year ago, meanwhile, McDonald’s launched CosMc’s, a Starbucks competitors in Bolingbrook, Il. There are now more than half a dozen of those stores nationwide, mostly in Texas at this point.
