Keynsham High Street to finally re-open to traffic this week

Keynsham High Street is set to finally re-open to traffic later this week, nine months after work began to improve its appearance and usability. A re-opening date of March 18 has been set as the finishing touches and nighttime resurfacing works have been taken place.

The High Street works have allowed for footpaths to be widened and the roads to be resurfaced. There have also been improvements made for cycling and bus stop facilities which include placing new street furniture.

Better signage has been installed on the High Street between Bath Hill and Charlton Road while new trees and planting has also been placed on the key route through the town.

Once the road re-opens, there will still be some disruption in Keynsham over the remainder of the month. Rock Road is set to shut for three weeks to allow sewage work to be done for a nearby development.

However, it's a positive sign for traders along the high street who have previously hit out at the "shocking" works to improve the roads. Footfall has dropped for the majority of businesses along the high street as a result of the roadworks.

Work to improve the High Street was expected to take eight months but the journey hasn't been all plain sailing. There have been "unforeseen" issues with the pavement depth on the east side of the street which meant draining couldn't be placed there causing some delays.

The improvements to Temple Street are part of the council's £3.6m invested into the rejuvenation of Keynsham's High Street.
