Major improvements on a stretch of the A52 at Gamston are a "step nearer" to being finished after months of roadworks and delays. The widening of the road and extra safety measures for cyclists and pedestrians are among the new features of the Gamston roundabout.
Work on the National Highways scheme first began in January 2022, with the work initially expected to take a year. But bad weather has continually delayed the project, with rain having prevented teams from carrying out the final white lining and high-friction anti-skid surfacing.
But in an update on the Gamston project on Thursday (May 25), National Highways says it is now close to being finished. The agency said: "The new traffic signals system we’ve installed on the roundabout is going through a period of optimisation.

"For safety, we've kept the traffic management on during this time. We're working closely with specialists to ensure the signals work correctly, so that once the junction opens for traffic, you'll benefit from improved traffic flow.
"We've completed phase one of testing, and will carry out the second phase on Tuesday 30 May 2023. We thank you for your patience and will keep you updated should there be any significant changes."
Speaking about what drivers would see when the Gamston project is complete, National Highways previously said: "People will be able to get out of side roads and residencies safer and they will be able to get to their destinations quicker." The work has caused several overnight closures.
The closures have previously been delayed to accommodate football fans leaving the City Ground. The Gamston roundabout project is part of a broader project to make improvements at several junctions along the A52 in Nottingham, with a provisional end date for the project of 2027.
