Key step forward for new Beeston GP surgery as first image released of centre

The first image of a new GP surgery in a Nottinghamshire town has been unveiled.

Detailed plans have been submitted for a new surgery and pharmacy in Beeston.

The Manor Surgery is currently located in Middle Street, but it has been proposed that it should relocate to an entirely new site off Chilwell Road.

This is because the patient list, which currently sits at 13,000, is expected to grow to 18,000 by 2025.

Councillor Steve Carr, the deputy leader of Broxtowe Borough Council, who represents Beeston North for the Lib Dems, says it is well-known that people across the country have been struggling to book appointments with GPs.

It is an issue that has plagued Nottinghamshire, too.

He said: "There are issues with people not being able to get hold of GPs.

"Something that is going to increase the availability is only a good thing for Beeston.

"But it is going to be up to the planning committee to decide."

According to planning documents the new building will be constructed on a site opposite Beeston Parish Church, adjacent to the town centre and near a number of public transport access points.

The current Manor Surgery building provides around 445 square-metres of floor space, but the new surgery will provide 970 square-metres and will be "purpose built to the most up to date standards for surgery accommodation".

It will also include the building of a new pharmacy.

Louis Mok, partner at the Manor Surgery, added: "The location is ideal, prominent, easy to find and accessible by public transport.

"We have been keen to ensure the new building is designed to the best possible standards. The property will benefit from Air Source Heat Pumps and a range of other energy-saving facilities which will future proof the property for years to come and reduce our carbon footprint.

"This development will allow us to provide the best possible clinical care to the ever-growing patients in Beeston within top quality surgical premises.”

It comes as more new built housing estates are constructed in the area, including 250 new homes on the former Barton's bus depot in Chilwell.

If plans are approved construction will begin mid-2022 with completion of the community clinical facility delivered by early summer 2023.
