THE West Coast Main Line has reopened after being closed following a landslip causing severe disruption to cross-Border rail services.
The key train route, which connects Glasgow and London, was hit by a landslip near Beattock in Dumfries and Galloway amid heavy rain and a yellow weather warning on Friday.
Engineers worked through the night to restore the route between Carstairs and Lockerbie on Saturday morning.
The line was closed at around 2:30pm on Friday as specialist geotechnical engineers looked at the landslip, and it has since been reopened.
Network Rail said trains would run at a reduced speed between Carstairs and Lockerbie before further work is carried out on Saturday night.
Avanti West Coast also warned passengers there may be “short-notice changes” on journeys to and from Scotland.
The travel firm said customers with tickets dated from February 21 for journeys north of Preston could use them until the end of service on Saturday 22.
A statement from Avanti West Coast said: “If you are due to travel between Preston and Glasgow/Edinburgh then your existing ticket can be used on any Avanti West Coast service via the same route until the end of service tomorrow, Saturday 22 February.”
The Caledonian Sleeper also warned its passengers that delays could occur during the overnight journey.
