Key January decision made on Sam Surridge as Lyle Taylor heads for the Nottingham Forest exit door

Sam Surridge did himself few favours with his performance against Blackpool in the FA Cup. Making only his fourth start of the campaign, Surridge missed three highly presentable chances in the embarrassing cup exit at Bloomfield Road.

It did little to dampen speculation surrounding a move for the 24-year-old in this window, with a host of Championship clubs said to be circling.

And despite his cup horror show, an overwhelming 78% of Forest fans believe the club should hang on to him in the window.

Asked to have their say on whether Steve Cooper's side should keep or sell six fringe players in January via our Keep Or Sell tool, Surridge was one of only two players supporters opted to retain.

The other was Jack Colback, though the outcome was less clear-cut with 43% of respondents believing the club should cut their ties with the 33-year-old this month.

There would certainly be no shortage of takers for the veteran, with Wigan thought to be leading the chase.

Considering Lyle Taylor didn’t make Forest’s 25-man Premier League squad, a January departure for the striker will have little impact on the second half of the campaign. Understandably, 83% of respondents agree, believing the club should sell the 32-year-old this month.

The voting was slightly closer in the case of Jordan Smith, Loïc Mbe Soh and Cafu. Nevertheless, the outcome was still the same, with 65% believing Smith’s time at the City Ground is up. A similar number would not stand in the way of Mbe Soh leaving, with a return to France looking his most likely option.

And only 36% of fans voted to hang on to the services of Cafu. A start at Grimsby in the Carabao Cup and six minutes in the home win over West Ham have been the Portuguese’s only involvement this season and a clean break looks best for both parties.
