The winter World Cup in Qatar has forced the FA to tweak the traditional football schedule this season meaning the first Championship round of fixtures has been pushed forward.
That will also have a knock-on effect on when players return from their pre-season break, the pre-season fixtures and of course, the urgency on getting transfer deals over the line sooner rather than later so managers can get to introducing new signings to their team-mates and tactics.
City manager Nigel Pearson has already moved quickly to secure the signings of Mark Sykes and Kal Naismith who will join the club once their contracts expire at their respective clubs at the end of this month.
Other deals are likely to drag on for the entirety of the window and they'll undoubtedly be plenty of twists and turns regarding the futures of some City players from now up until the start of the season when the squad will become a lot clearer.
For the supporters, there are plenty of dates to keep an eye on over the next two months regarding the Robins in the build-up to the new season which are detailed below.
Transfer window opens - Although City have already confirmed two new additions, the transfer window doesn't officially open until June 10 when players can freely move clubs. Those who have joined on free transfers will need to wait until July 1 when their contracts at their clubs officially expire.
Transfer window closes - The window will remain open until 11pm on Thursday, September 1 in line with other European Leagues. That means the transfer window is open for just under 12 weeks in total.
Fixture release dates - Bristol City will find out their fixtures for the 2022/23 Championship season on Thursday, June 23 at 9am.
Opening game of the season - Due to the World Cup schedule, the Championship will now kick-off on the weekend July 30, one week early than previous seasons.
The Championship season will break on November 12-13 for the World Cup and recommence on December 10 after the World Cup group stages have come to an end.
Players report back - The players will report back for pre-season fitness tests on June 10. Dates for their pre-season tour have yet to be announced.
Pre-season fixtures - Only one pre-season fixture has been scheduled. City will travel to the Home Park Stadium on July 16 to take on Plymouth. More details of pre-season matches will follow.
