Key Chelsea figure set to remain at Stamford Bridge despite expected takeover

Prior to Chelsea's FA Cup win against Luton Town on Wednesday night, Roman Abramovich announced that he would be selling the west London club after almost two decades in charge.

Abramovich confirmed that the Blues were set to be put up for sale in an official statement to the club’s website.

Recent developments have suggested that the consortium led by Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss and LA Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly is expected to make a bid to buy Chelsea in the next 48 hours, with at least one other unnamed American businessman on board.

A potential change in ownership could take as little as 10 days according to Premier League chief executive Richard Masters, although he did warn that any deal would collapse if government sanctions are imposed on Abramovich.

Furthermore, the news of any takeover has cast doubts over the futures of important club figures like Petr Cech and Marina Granovskaia.

With regards to the latter, however, journalist Matt Law has provided a significant update, stating that she could stay.

“I’m told that one of the groups interested in buying Chelsea would certainly want her to stay. They know all about her and how valuable she is. And they certainly wouldn’t be looking to come in and just ask her to leave,” he said on the London is Blue Podcast.

Marina became involved in contractual dealings and transfers back in 2010 before being made chief executive of Chelsea four years later.
