Kevin Stefanski releases statement on the hiring of new OC Tommy Rees

The Cleveland Browns have officially announced the promotion of tight end coach Tommy Rees to offensive coordinator.

Rees joined the staff this past summer as the tight ends coach after time as the offensive coordinator with both Notre Dame and Alabama. He was quickly well-liked in the building as he is now back in an offensive coordinator role. After the firing of Ken Dorsey, Rees was rumored to be the front-runner throughout the process.

Now officially hired, head coach Kevin Stefanski has released a statement on his decision:

“Tommy has an incredible football mind… He is extremely bright and has been around the game his entire life. Before joining our staff, he established himself as one of the top assistant coaches in college football. Last season, he transitioned into our tight end room and with our pass game, and he didn’t miss a beat. Due to injuries, there was a lot of uncertainty at tight end, but Tommy did a phenomenal job with that group and always had his players ready for gameday, despite, in some cases, only being with the team for a short period of time.”

As the Browns move back into an offense that consistently hovered around the top 10, promoting Rees hopefully brings a boost to that side of the ball. It is still uncertain who will call plays for the Browns in 2025.

Can Rees help the Browns turn it around next year?
