Kevin Sinfield overcome with emotion receiving gift commemorating the iconic moment he shared with Rob Burrow

Kevin Sinfield has been left overcome with emotion receiving a special gift honouring the iconic moment he carried great friend Rob Burrow over the marathon finishing line.

Earlier this month, Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield took on the first Rob Burrow Marathon in Headingley. The event, supported by thousands of people, raised funds for a string of good causes including the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association and a Leeds Hospitals Charity appeal to build a Rob Burrow Centre for MND.

Leeds Rhinos great Rob, 40, was diagnosed with MND in 2019 and since then has won admiration and acclaim thanks to his tireless work to increase awareness of the condition. His example has in turn inspired friend and former Rhinos team-mate Kevin Sinfield to raise millions of pounds for MND-related causes by tackling a series of endurance challenges.

When the duo completed the marathon, in a time of four hours and 10 minutes, Kevin carried Rob over the finishing line. On Tuesday morning’s episode of BBC Breakfast, Kevin received a special commemorative print created by artist Charlie Mackesy capturing that now-famous moment.

Kevin was visibly emotional receiving the signed gift from the artist. The prints are also going to be on sale for £30 with £20 of the sales being donated to charity campaign.

On Breakfast, a clip was shown of Rob Burrow commenting on the print created by the artist. He said: “I’m blown away from the picture created by the artist Charlie Mackesy.”
