HIbs will resist any bids for red hot Kevin Nisbet this month as the hitman re-emerges on Celtic’s radar.
The striker has returned from 10-months out with an ACL injury in brilliant form, netting seven times in six games. His five goals in six days last week single-handedly won the Hibees four points.
And it’s form which has alerted scouts up and down the country with the Hoops reportedly eyeing the 25-year-old as a direct replacement for Giorgos Giakoumakis should the Greek striker depart Celtic this month. Giakoumakis is close to agreeing a switch to Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan with Atlanta United also interested in a move which would leave a huge hole in Ange Postecoglou’s attack.
But Record Sport understands so far there’s been no direct contact with Hibs from any club over Nisbet - and that the Easter Road hierarchy won’t entertain any attempt to prise him away from Leith in this window particularly with Martin Boyle ruled out injured for the season.
The Scotland striker has 18 months left on his current contract and boss Lee Johnson said at the weekend he expects the club to open discussions over a new deal with Nisbet’s representatives soon. Should a new deal not be agreed then Hibs would most likely look to cash in on their prize asset in the summer.
