Kevin Nisbet Hibs future addressed as Lee Johnson makes realistic claim on striker's 'ambitions'

Lee Johnson admits Kevin Nisbet will have 'ambitions' of playing at the highest level but he's delighted to still have him at Hibs.

The Scotland cap brought the transfer window rumour mill to a screeching halt when his seemingly done and dusted move to English Championship side Millwall was kiboshed at the eleventh hour. Nisbet looked set to call time on his Easter Road adventure but made a stunning return to Leith much to the delight of Johnson and the fanbase.

The forward has been in a good vein of form but Johnson is realistic that the summer window could bring more interest on the 26-year-old's services. He detailed how impressed his is by Nisbet in training but says as long as he is in the capital his development will be a priority.

He told Sky Sports: "I think Kevin's an excellent player, a consistent goal scorer. A fantastic finisher. You watch him at seven a sides and the amount of angles he finds with clean, crisp finishes is unbelievable.

"Outside of the boot, Romario toe pokes, chips, volleys, right foot, left foot. It's all there to see. But he's still returning back to full fitness, he had a period out where he felt his hamstring. Saturday I didn't think he was at his best but he had three chances but what we've got to do is feed him more and make sure we get players around him.

"Any club in the SPL(six) would look at a Kevin Nisbet and want him in and around the squad. At the same time he's got ambitions and wants to play as high as he can as long as he can like all players and depending on what opportunities arise.

"The last opportunity led to him believing Hibs was the right club for him and we've still got him. While he's here I'm certainly going to enjoy trying to develop him and improve his game but also him scoring goals for us and enjoying his football."
