Kevin Muscat in Yokohama message amid Rangers job wait

Kevin Muscat is tonight preparing for a crucial Yokohama F. Marinos match as he waits to hear the outcome of Rangers' manager search.

The 50-year-old appears to be involved in a straight shoot-out with Philippe Clement to succeed Michael Beale at Ibrox.

Both candidates have been interviewed by the club's CEO James Bisgrove and chairman John Bennett.

Clement attended the interview process in person in London, however, Muscat has had to make do with video calls.

That's because he's still employed by Ange Postecoglou's former side Yokohama F. Marinos.

The J-League outfit are in the midst of a title fight given the season in Japan doesn't end until December.

And while Muscat awaits an answer from the Rangers hierarchy, it is business as usual for the Australian.

He watched on as Marinos defeated Urawa Red Diamonds 1-0 during the first leg of their J-League Cup semi-final in midweek.

The second leg of the tie takes place tomorrow - and depending on what Rangers' decision is, it could well be his last match in charge.

Previewing the game, Muscat has told his players to maintain their usual intensity to ensure their passage to the final of the competition.

He told Yokohama Express: "We were well prepared leading up to the first leg. The players understood what they needed to do and expressed it well on the pitch, which led to the result.

"We had a different opponent, so we knew it wouldn't be an easy match. What we wanted was to play with great intensity at all times.

"As a result of continuing to fight hard, we were able to play worthy of a win. Urawa is a good team, so we had to create a lot of chances. It's difficult. But as we played the games, I think our chances started to increase. We want to be well prepared for the second game."
