Kevin McGahern loved joining Dancing with the Stars 'at the last minute' after someone cut out of show

Comedian Kevin McGahern has revealed that he loved "being choppered in" after somebody was cut out of Dancing with the Stars at the last minute.

The TV presenter got a call from the bosses of the show and he was given Laura Nolan as a partner just weeks before the show began.

However, the star does not know about the future of his comedy show Clear History.

Kevin explained to RSVP Live: "I liked the idea of being choppered in at the last minute and being thrown into the deep end. There is a certain appeal to that.

"I was talking to the other lads and they were thinking about what they should be doing to prepare for the show and they were questioning whether or not they should go ahead or not."

On top of the popular weekly dancing show, Kevin also recently fronted the RTÉ 2 comedy show Clear History - however, he is unsure if he will return.

McGahern continued: "You have no idea with RTÉ. They tend to give you a call two weeks before they want you. It did good numbers viewership wise and Joanne McNally’s career has exploded since season one. Joanne, Jason Byrne and I had great fun filming. We had a laugh all the time. They would be fools not to bring it back."

The comedian also appeared on the hit drama series Smother.

He added: "Apart from the serious talent in front of the camera and behind the scenes, it was nice because the show was filmed during the lockdown.

"So when the rest of the country was stuck inside we were in this beautiful little town, Lahinch, and staying in a hotel. We were in this strange little bubble and I couldn’t think of a nicer place to spend that time."

The former host of Republic of Telly managed to make it to the semi-final of Dancing with the Stars - missing out on a spot in the final after a dance-off with Suzanne Jackson.

He said: "I have never been competitive. I was never good at sports so I didn’t bother taking part. With a show like this the further you go, the more competitive you get. I am going to give it my all and I am going to put the work in.

"Laura is such an amazing teacher and an amazing dancer and she has had full faith in me from the get-go. That has given me a confidence boost.”
