Kevin De Bruyne returned to empty dressing room and couldn't celebrate win over Arsenal

Kevin De Bruyne claims he was denied the chance to celebrate Manchester City's win against Arsenal because of media commitments.

De Bruyne scored a brace to help Pep Guardiola's side beat the Gunners 4-1 at the Etihad on Wednesday night. That result leaves City just two points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal with two games in hand, making them red-hot favourites for the title.

City players celebrated their crucial victory at full-time, but De Bruyne missed out on the chance to toast their success. The Belgium international insists City's dressing room was almost empty after he completed his "15 interviews" with various outlets.

De Bruyne was asked by reporters how he celebrated City's win. As quoted by the Daily Star, the former Chelsea midfielder ironically replied: "To be fair, by doing about 15 interviews. When I got back to the dressing room, most of the team was gone."

De Bruyne missed some lively scenes in the dressing room, with Jack Grealish posting some snaps on Instagram. He added: "Nights like these at Etihad don’t get much better! A long way still to go! Cmon the boys! CITEHHHH."

City have a great chance to become just the second team in history to win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in the same season. The only other team to achieve that feat was their local rivals Manchester United, who did so 24 years ago.

City have a relatively simple run-in, as they are expected to beat Fulham, West Ham, Leeds, Everton and Chelsea in their next five games. Their final two fixtures, which are trips to high-flyers Brighton and Brentford, are tougher games on paper.

In terms of the Champions League, City will be tipped to win that competition if they can beat holders Real Madrid in the semi-finals. The winners of that tie will face either AC Milan or Inter Milan in the final, who are placed fourth and sixth respectively in Serie A.

City are also the favourites to win the FA Cup after breezing past Sheffield United in the semi-finals last Saturday. They will face Man Utd at Wembley in the final on June 3, meaning the Red Devils could stop their local rivals from following in their treble footsteps.

De Bruyne believes City are at the top of their game and took advantage of Arsenal's pressing style. The Gunners allowed De Bruyne and Erling Haaland, who scored his 49th goal of the season on Wednesday night, to get in behind their holding midfielders.

De Bruyne added: "I think we've been playing well for months, winning most of the games. There is more space in behind with Arsenal as they go to man to man. That meant there was more opportunities for me to run into the space and get the ball.

"I think we created enough chances. I just try to play the best football I can. It was fine, picking the right moments to go in behind and I think we really hurt them in that first half on occasions. We could have scored more."
