Kevin De Bruyne outlines aims for future after signing new Man City contract

Kevin De Bruyne wants more of the same for the next four years after committing his future to Manchester City for the next four years.

And more of the same means more trophies, after a hugely successful six years at the Etihad that has seen De Bruyne win eight competitions - with up to four more this season still on offer.

After penning a new contract until 2025, De Bruyne spoke to City's media team about his ambitions for the next four seasons that will take him to ten years with the Blues.

In the short term, De Bruyne outlined his aim to finish the job this season and try and win an unprecedented quadruple.

"Win everything possible," he said when asked what his aims were for the rest of the season.

"That's the mindset when we started, obviously you can't look too much forward. In my playing career every time you look too far forward that's the time stupid things happen or mistakes happen. I don't know why we'd look too far ahead.

"We know we're in a good position where we can compete for these titles and hopefully at the end of the season we can have a few."

Looking further ahead, De Bruyne said he expects City to maintain their high level of performance that they have shown in recent years, and he is confident of keeping his own high standards as well.

“I hope I can maintain my level. I am confident in that,” he added. “Physically I have always been okay. Obviously, you get a few injuries here and there but that happens to everybody. But I hope to maintain the same level we did the last six years, where we’ve been able to compete all the time for titles.

“It’s hard to keep the standard but that standard had been set for the last six years and I want to keep doing that for the next four years of this contract.

“I don’t want to do anything different – compete here for titles and help the team perform and help the young players become better until I finish.

“When I came here it was with big expectations and they exceeded every expectation in every part. To compete in every cup competition, every title, every Champions League, every FA Cup - and doing it the right way, the way we play, excites me.

“I don’t know why I would change that.”

De Bruyne also hailed the influence of Pep Guardiola on his game, saying it 'helped' in his decision to sign the new deal, but the manager wasn't the sole reason for extending.

“The main reason is the feeling – how I feel about this club and the team," he said.

"The team push me to get to this level. It’s not easy to compete all the time with these players because they are so good, but they help me to perform the best I can.

“It’s a mix of everything that helps me be who I am, and I get to do what I do best, which is be on the pitch and help the teammates win.”

“I have been really fortunate – when I came here, we had a good team and over the years a lot of players changed but I remained, so that’s a good thing.

“We’ve won a lot of trophies, the team is really good, and the way we play excites me - and that’s the way I want to go forward, so it wasn’t difficult for me.”
