Kevin Costner's latest project, 'Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1,' continues to face challenges at the box office. In its second weekend, the Western film earned an estimated $5.4 million across 3,334 theaters, securing the sixth spot in the North American box office rankings. This figure represents a significant 50% decline from its $11 million opening weekend earnings.

With a global total of $22.1 million so far, 'Horizon' has struggled to attract international audiences, with only $455,610 coming from overseas ticket sales. The reported budget for the first installment of the four-part series is $50 million, contrary to earlier claims of a $100 million production budget.

Kevin Costner, who stars in and finances the film, has invested $38 million of his own money into 'Horizon,' with additional funding from private investors. The movie's marketing costs of $30 million were also covered by Costner and his financial partners.

Despite the financial challenges, Costner has already begun production on the third chapter of 'Horizon: An American Saga.' The film, set during the Civil War era, features a star-studded ensemble cast including Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, and Michael Rooker.

While 'Horizon' has faced criticism from some reviewers, its audience reception remains more positive, with a 71% approval rating based on over 1,000 user reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The film's sequel, 'Chapter 2,' is scheduled for release on August 16, offering audiences a glimpse of what's to come in the expansive Western epic.

As the future of the remaining chapters of 'Horizon: An American Saga' remains uncertain, Costner and his team are navigating the challenges of bringing their ambitious vision to the screen amidst mixed critical reception and box office performance.
