Former Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Kevin Clifton has revealed that he is “excited” to become a dad following news that his girlfriend, documentary maker Stacey Dooley, is expecting their first child together.
Clifton, 39, appeared on BBC’s The One Show on Tuesday alongside Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood, Eastenders actress and Strictly star Maisie Smith, and Dame Mary Berry, discussing the recent baby news.
Clifton was congratulated by host Ronan Keating saying, “And Kevin, you are having a baby! Congratulations!”.
The Grimsby native replied: “Yes, thank you very much! I am very excited. I am gonna have to grow up now!”
Keating’s co-host Alex Jones added: “It is such lovely news, lovely”.
Dooley had appeared on The One Show just a few days prior to gush and share the baby news after making the announcement on Instagram.
Keating had said: “We have to start by saying congratulations, big news today from yourself and Kevin.”
The Glow Up presenter replied: “Thanks mate, I can’t quite believe it. I’m delighted actually, I feel really lucky. Because I’m 35 so you never take it for granted.”
Clifton and Dooley met on series 17 of Strictly Come Dancing as dancing partners with the pair going on to win the Glitterball Trophy in December 2018.
Dooley was the first celebrity to win the trophy for Clifton, who had been a finalist in the dance competition narrowly missing out on first place four times from 2013 to 2016 with Susanna Reid, Frankie Bridge, Kellie Bright and Louise Redknapp.
The pair publicly began dating in 2019 after Dooley split from her former boyfriend, Sam Tucknott.
Tucknott previously told the Mail on Sunday that he said to Clifton, “you’re an absolute rat. How you conducted yourself. Just a slippery, slimy snake”, once he found out the dancers got together.
