Kevin Campbell sends Everton clear transfer message on £17.5 million winger

Former Everton striker Kevin Campbell would like to see the Toffees sign Maxwel Cornet from relegated Burnley.

Everton's Premier League survival saw the Clarets relegated to the Championship on the final day of the season, ending their six-year stay in the top-flight. Following their takeover, dropping down a division was the worst case scenario for the club and Burnley will need to sell players to help balance their books.

One of the stars likely to leave Turf Moor is Cornet, who arrived from Lyon last summer. His debut season in England went well, scoring nine goals and grabbing one assist in 26 league appearances. Prior to his arrival, Liverpool were linked with a move for the Ivorian but it now seems he could be moving to the blue half of Merseyside.

Pundit Campbell believes that his former club should do what they can to sign the Ivorian attacker who can play out wide on the left or through the middle, given he could be signed for under £20million this summer.

“I think Cornet, he really showed himself at the end of the season to be a really good player," Campbell told Goodison News. “I’m not being funny but £17.5million is cheap money.

“He can play anywhere down the left hand side can’t he, and he can play striker.

“Having an interchangeable piece that can slot in, I think it would be a really good move because it’s cheap money.”

Cornet could be one of two Burnley players who could make the move to Everton this summer, with Frank Lampard's side interested in singing James Tarkowski on a free transfer once his contract runs out at the end of the month.

The centre-back has interest from other Premier League clubs as Everton look to bolster the squad after a season in which they battled against being relegated for the majority of it.
