Kevin Bridges pays tribute to 'greatest of all time' father

SCOTTISH comedian Kevin Bridges has paid tribute to his father Andy who died aged 75 on Thursday.

Representatives for the 36-year-old confirmed Mr Bridges died on January 5, surrounded by his wife Patricia and his family.

The comic took to Twitter to post a video of his father, who he has previously said played a pivotal role in his success, with the caption: “The greatest of all time.”

Scottish singer Amy Macdonald replied to the tweet and said: “So sorry for your loss. Can’t imagine what you’re going through.”

SNP MP for East Dunbartonshire Amy Callaghan also expressed her condolences. She said: “Sorry for your loss Bridges – sending love to you and the family.”

Bridges previously spoke about the importance of his father in his career during an interview on The Graham Norton Show in 2015.

He told the presenter: “My dad, he used to drive me to the gigs because I was too young to perform in the clubs so they’d let me as long as I brought a parent, which was pretty uncool.

“Having to bring a note in and say you’re alright to go on stage in these comedy clubs. He used to drive me everywhere, all over Scotland.”

In September last year, Bridges shared a picture on Instagram of himself and his dad stood outside iconic comedy venue The Stand in Glasgow, where his dad drove him for his first gig.

The caption read: “Over 17 and a half years since this man drove me up here for my first open mic spot.

“Good to have him back in da cluuuub last night. There we were now here we are.”

The comedian also responded to a tweet about his father’s death which read: “Will he joke about this like he did when our queen died.”

Bridges responded: “Of course I will joke about it… do you know where I can get a good suit for the funeral mate??”
