Keshet International (KI) has acquired the global rights to the Finnish sci-fi thriller 'Valhalla Project' ('Operaatio Valhalla'), produced by Snapper Films for the Finnish streaming service Elisa Viihde. The six-part series, currently in post-production, will be previewed on April 7 at MipDrama in Cannes, a showcase for premium dramas for buyers and press.
The international cast of the series includes Sara Soulié, Alistair Brammer, Iben Dorner, Joonas Saartamo, and Pääru Oja. Directed by Juha Wuolijoki and written by Jari Olavi Rantala, the story explores parallel dimensions, humanity, identity, and the limitations of life.
The plot follows climate researcher Alina Railo (played by Soulié) as she embarks on an expedition to the Finnish Lapland to access a parallel universe in search of a solution to the climate crisis, following in the footsteps of her father who disappeared in Lapland over 30 years ago.
KI's managing director of distribution, Kelly Wright, expressed excitement about the partnership with Elisa and Snapper Films, highlighting the mystery thriller's unique elements. Anke Stoll, KI's SVP of acquisitions and co-productions, praised the compelling story arc and format potential of 'Valhalla Project.'
Filmed in Helsinki, North Karelia, and Lapland, the series will premiere on Elisa Viihde in Finland later this year and will be officially launched at Mipcom 2024 in Cannes. Elisa's chief content officer, Ani Korpela, emphasized the success of their original series and the significance of 'Valhalla Project' in their lineup.
Elisa Viihde's previous success with 'Mister 8' and upcoming projects like 'Money Shot' and 'Icebreaker' were also mentioned. Keshet International will present the Israeli crime drama 'Palo Alto' at MipDrama, along with other projects in their spring 2024 slate.
