Kerry Washington looks very different as she wears military wear for Tyler Perry war drama

Kerry Washington has been transported back in time as she commenced filming for the period drama Six Triple Eight in Cambridgeshire.

The Hollywood star was joined on set at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, Cambridgeshire by many of her co-stars and producer Tyler Perry earlier this week.

While filming, Kerry who is known for playing Olivia Pope in ABC's Scandal took to the set rocking military attire in fitting with the World War Two theme of the movie which started filming on January 17 in Atlanta.

Kerry, 46, slipped into a dark green coat on set which covered a cream blouse while also wearing a black cap on her head.

Her female co-stars all wore a similar coat as well as black ankle boots.

Meanwhile, Tyler Perry who is friends with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle opted for a black raincoat and cap while walking with members of his crew.

The production, which as of yet does not have a release date, will share the story of the only all-black female Battalion from the war.

Women who made up the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion had been instructed with sorting through three years worth of undelivered mail to American service personnel.

But despite the timeframe, the women managed to get through their task in just half the time after sifting through over 17 million pieces of mail and finding its right destination and recipient.

Scenes shot in Cambridgeshire saw Kerry standing surrounded by thousands of pieces of mail stored at the Duxford hangar while her colleagues marched in front of her.

But Kerry isn't the only big name to be taking part in the production with names including Greg Sulkin, Oprah, Moriah Brown and Susan Sarandon all listed as cast members.

However, in fitting with the Battalion, the cast features predominantly women to showcase the story in the most accurate way.

During their time in the forces, the group faced hatred and racial discrimination but continued to power through with their mission and adopted the motto "No Mail, Low Morale," which boosted their spirits.

Elsewhere, the cast and crew also headed to Little Germany in Bradford, West Yorks, a stark contrast from the Hollywood Hills to film scenes for the movie.

Filming in Bradford will continue throughout the weekend with more famous names descending on the city.

Over the years, the area has been home to several big productions including Emmerdale, Downton Abbey, ABC Murders and Gentleman Jack.
