Kerry Katona makes 'heartbreaking' decision to pull son Max, 15, out of school

Kerry Katona has made the difficult decision to pull her son, 15, out of school.

The mum-of-five, 42, who shares Max with ex Mark Croft, revealed she had spoken to a psychiatrist about the teenager, who suffers from "severe ADHD" (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).

Max is now going to be homeschooled as well as learn more about the building trade, but Kerry admits things haven't been easy at home.

Revealing her son was often sent home from school because of his behaviour, she said: "We've decided to pull him out after speaking to a psychiatrist and his teachers. He's got severe ADHD and finds the environment really difficult to cope with.

"This isn't a decision we've taken lightly. It's been going on for years and he was getting sent home from school as much as he was going in."

The Atomic Kitten star explained Max may now be put on medication, saying at first she was against the idea because of the effect it had on her.

Kerry told new magazine: "At first I said no because of the way I was treated when I was on medication, but it's got to the point now where it's got to stop."

She also explained her son's self esteem was suffering because he gets frustrated with himself due to his lack of concentration.

ADHD is a condition which includes symptoms such as being restless and having trouble concentrating.

Symptoms of the disorder include a short attention span, constantly fidgeting and acting without thinking.

During lockdown, Kerry admitted her frustrated son smashed up his bedroom in a rage due to the fact he was unable to cope with being cooped up for such a long period of time.

She explained that quarantine enforced by the Covid-10 crisis was too much for Max, who had been 'screaming and crying' out of sheer frustration.

However, last summer, she got him a £50-a-day job on a building site in London.

Kerry said Max would be staying in London for three weeks to work and would be earning £50 a day with her fiancé Ryan Mahoney's family.

The doting mum has five kids, including Molly and Lilly-Sue, from her relationship with Brian McFadden, Heidi, whose dad is Mark Croft and Dylan Jorge (DJ), whose father George Kay, died in 2019 after a seizure following a cocaine binge.
