Kerry Katona in tears while filming amid backlash over pregnancy announcement

Kerry Katona admitted she felt 'dreadful' when she received backlash over an online pregnancy prank.

The former Atomic Kitten singer took part in April Fool's Day by posting a picture of a fake baby scan on her social media.

People were furious and said it was 'weird and insensitive' to fake a pregnancy.

She apologised for the post and even wrote a column for new magazine explaining her side of the story.

Kerry wanted to 'clear things up' after being slammed for 'upsetting people who aren't able to have children or people who have previously suffered miscarriages'.

"I was called such vile things and it broke me down," she wrote. "People assume I haven't had any struggles with fertility, but I have. I know the heartache. I have had an angel baby.

"The joke was not intentionally cruel. It wasn't aimed at miscarriages, or families struggling to get pregnant. I was just pranking Ryan."

She went on to say that she was filming for Steph's Packed Lunch when she began receiving horrible messages from trolls.

"I felt dreadful after being trolled," Kerry added before saying she doesn't know how she didn't start crying during filming.

On April 1, she took to her Instagram to post a picture of an ultrasound.

Before deleting her post, she had edited the caption and said 'bloody knew you lot wouldn't bloody believe me.'

Fans immediately slammed her for the post, with one saying: " Kerry Katona faking a pregnancy, weird and insensitive behaviour."

Another added: "Kerry katona faking pregnancy for April fools then deleting it is just f***ing weird."

On the same day, a spokesperson for the singer revealed she wasn't meant to post the picture to her public account.

The spokesman for Kerry said: "It was an April Fools joke for her fiancé Ryan but she posted it to her public account and not her private one with very close friends by accident.

"Kerry herself cannot have any more children due to medical issues and has openly spoken about this in the past.

"She sincerely apologises to anyone who is offended and would never post anything to purposely upset anyone.”

Kerry is already a mum to Lilly-Sue, 19, Molly, 20, Heidi, 15, and Dylan-Jorge, seven, and son Max, 13.

Kerry also previously apologised in a column for OK! magazine.
