Cardiff council has announced changes to the way garden waste will be collected. As autumn approaches, the council has said that the service will be reduced to monthly collections, before being suspended for three months later in the year.
Kerbside garden waste collections will move to monthly pick-ups from October 4 until November 25, before being suspended fully during December, January and February. This allows residents two further collections as the season changes.
The council claims that figures show that the amount of garden waste collected from residents’ homes reduces by 80% over the winter season. As a result of this, during the autumn and winter period waste collection crews will focus on the collection of food waste, black bag waste and recycling which significantly increases as we approach the Christmas season, as people spend more time at home.
