Kerala: At least 20 injured as elephant runs amok at festival in Malappuram, watch the video

Malappuram: At least 20 people were injured, two of them seriously, when an elephant ran amok at an annual festival in Kerala's Malappuram district. 

According to Dynamite News correspondent, the incident occurred when the four-day annual festivities or 'Nercha' at Yahoo Thangal’s shrine at BP Angadi were about to conclude around 1 am on Wednesday.

Elephant Paakkath Sreekuttan
The elephant, named Paakkath Sreekuttan, grabbed a person with its trunk, twisted him, and threw him into the crowd, leaving him seriously injured. 

Stampede-like situation
Many people also injured as the chaos ensued after the elephant attacked the man. People started to run to safety which created stampede-like situation due to the panic.

Meanwhile, some people were seen trying to control the elephant with chains. It took Mahout nearly two hours to pacify the elephant.
