(Picture: Getty Images)A World Cup security guard has now died after falling from the concourse after the Argentina v Netherlands game in Qatar, it has been reported.
John Njau Kibue, a 24-year-old Kenyan, fell from the eighth floor of the Lusail Stadium in Doha on Friday suffering a severe head injury, facial fractures and pelvic fractures.
Authorities confirmed he died on Tuesday and that an investigation will be completed “as a matter of urgency,” adding that Mr Kibue’s unpaid wages will be sent to his family.
A statement from Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy said: “Stadium medical teams immediately attended the scene and provided emergency treatment before he was transferred to Hamad Medical Hospital’s intensive care unit via ambulance.”
The statement added that he died after being in the intensive care unit for three days.
“We send our sincere condolences to his family, colleagues and friends during this difficult time,” the statement concluded.
Qatari authorities have said there have been between “400 and 500″ migrant worker deaths on World Cup-related projects, although some estimates put the true figure much higher.
The committee, which is responsible for running the 2022 tournament, said an urgent investigation is taking place into the “circumstances leading to the fall”.
It also launched an investigation earlier this week amid reports that a Filipino man was involved in a forklift incident in which he slipped off a ramp while walking alongside the vehicle at a World Cup training base.

Mr Kibue’s family have told CNN they did not get an explanation from the company in charge of security.
“We want justice,” a statement from the family said. “We want to know what caused his death. They have never sent us a picture to show where he fell from or given us any other information.”
