Authorities in Kenya have apprehended a suspect in connection with the gruesome discovery of nine dismembered bodies of women at a quarry in Nairobi. The suspect, a 33-year-old man, confessed to the killings of 42 women, including his wife, since 2022, although no evidence has been provided to substantiate this claim.
The suspect, identified as Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, is set to appear in court on Tuesday to face charges related to the heinous crimes. Police found several smartphones and identity cards at his residence, located near the quarry where the bodies were found.
The macabre find came to light after relatives of a missing woman reported having a dream in which she guided them to search the quarry. Acting on this information, a local diver was enlisted to assist in the search, leading to the discovery of the bodies wrapped in sacks.
In response to the incident, the police have transferred officers from a nearby station to facilitate thorough investigations. Local residents had criticized the authorities for alleged negligence, citing the close proximity of the quarry to unresolved missing persons cases that had been reported.
Human rights organizations have called on Kenya's security agencies to expedite investigations into all cases of enforced disappearances. Concerns were raised initially that the bodies could be linked to abductions and arrests of young individuals during recent anti-government protests.
